Welcome to Naas RFC Website

I am extremely honoured to be the President of Naas RFC for Season 2012-2013 and to be able to play a part in shaping the club’s future.

This year, 2012, our Rugby Club is celebrating 90 years in the community of Naas and of surrounding areas such as Two Mile House, Blessington, Ballymore Eustace, Dunlavin, Eadestown, Kilcullen and Kill.

90 years is a very significant milestone in the life of an organisation. It presents an opportunity to reflect on all that has gone before, take stock of where we are today and make exciting plans for the future.

Our club has a rich and distinguished history. We have received many sporting accolades and helped produce successful players such as Geordan Murphy and Jamie Heaslip. Our current Seniors Team are very talented and I know will be formidable foes to all they meet on the rugby pitch this season.

Today at our home at Forenaughts, we boast over 600 members from the ages of 7 to 18. We have 120 players 19 and upwards.  We have teams from minis to juniors to seniors, veterans and each summer tag teams. In addition to top class coaching and opportunities to compete in leagues, our club offers our members the chance to learn life skills such as the importance of discipline, team work and learning to be gracious in victory as well as dignified in defeat.

We have teams of volunteers who give their time, skills, passion, energy and commitment to the club for no remuneration. These people coach, sit on committees, pursue sponsorship opportunities, prepare lunches, run tuck shops and a million other things that happen behind the scenes, without which the club could not function.

We have generous and committed sponsor who dig as deep as they can, even in these fiscally challenging times, to provide the funding required to run our club and thereby to allow our players focus on rugby and playing it so very well.

We also have an army of supporters for our players – parents, relatives, friends, neighbours - people who stand at the side of the pitch come rain or shine to ensure the players know that their efforts, successful or otherwise matter.  We appreciate all of this. This is what community is and why community matters.

We are looking forward very much to welcoming members of the wider rugby community to our club and to play on our pitches this season.

Rory Larkin

President
