Naas RFC hosted a touring party from St. David’s, Wales comprising forty players, coaches and parents at U13 and U14 age grades this weekend (22nd Oct). Following a visit to the National Aquatic Centre and the Aviva Stadium on Saturday morning and afternoon the party returned to Forenaughts for a hurling exhibition and coaching session which was provided by coaches, mentors and U12/U13 players from Naas GAA club. Following the hurling exhibition game and coaching session the players from St. David’s took part in a hurling match alongside the Naas players and were each provided with their own hurley sticks to take home to Wales.
The evening commenced with an excellent briefing from John Holmes on the history of hurling and finished with all Naas and St. David’s players sharing a meal together and making new friends.
Naas RFC would like to thank all of the coaches and mentors from Naas GAA who attended this excellent evening of sport and fun including; Jim Sheridan, John Holmes, Richie Hogan, Tony Meagher, Brian Aherne, C.J. Cullen, John Doyle, Mark Holmes, Mairtin Boran, Paul Murphy, Sean Tobin, and all of the players and parents who attended and participated. Thanks also to the St. David’s coaches and mentors including; Andrew Davies, Mark Price, Benny Davies and to the Naas RFC coaches and mentors including; Liam Daly, Tim Willoughby, Paul Stapleton and David McKeown.
On Sunday morning the touring party from St. David’s returned to Forenaughts to view the Rugby World Cup final (New Zealand v France) together with their hosts from Naas RFC and subsequently took part in two rugby matches involving the U13 and U14 age grades.
