The weekend of 26 February was an important occasion in the life of Naas RFC with the total number of international caps achieved by current and former players at the Club reaching 100. On the weekend when Ireland played England at Twickenham, the two Naas natives, Geordan Murphy, and Jamie Heaslip, represented Ireland once again.

It was also the occasion of the Annual Civic Awards ceremony at Naas Town Council, when the Council recognized the many activities of local groups, resident associations and individual members of the Community. Special Awards were made in respect of voluntary commitment, academic achievement and sporting success.

Deputy Mayor Seamie Moore, presented Frank Lawlor with an award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Community in Naas. In addition to his other Community engagements, Frank is a member of Naas RFC, has been a lifelong supporter of the club and has been frequently involved with team management and selection.

Councillor Rioghnagh Bracken in making her presentation to George and Cecily Murphy on behalf of Geordan (Leicester and Ireland), who was on Ireland duty at Twickenham, referred to his many sporting achievements with Naas RFC, Newbridge College, Leicester RFC and Ireland. Geordan’s commitment to his local community was also recognized by the audience.

The final award of the night went to Jamie Heaslip (Naas, Leinster and Ireland) in recognition of his many sporting achievements with Naas RFC, Newbridge College, Leinster and Ireland and was presented by Mayor Pat Clear. As Jamie was also on Ireland duty at Twickenham, Mayor Clear presented the award to Johnny Holmes, Naas RFC Club Captain who accepted on behalf of Jamie.
