Press Release Issued By Naas RFC : 17 Sept 2009
In October, David Mc Keown, who coaches mini rugby at Naas RFC travels to Tanzania for 10 days with Irish charity Playing for Life to work at a community centre near the town of Arusha.
The main aim of the charity is to provide training and to raise health awareness in deprived communities. They provide training in English, basic business skills, IT and even jam making to assist the local community in becoming self sufficient in the long term. They also get kids involved in the fun of sport and music, and bring in a serious message about health, particularly AIDS awareness.
David’s job will be to coach rugby and work on the health awareness side. This is the first time anyone has brought rugby into the community in Tanzania.
David hopes to raise €5,500 for the charity, and many members of Naas Rugby Club have already made kind donations to support this iniative.
If anyone feels able to make a donation. however small, they can do so by logging on to www.mycharity.ie and entering the name David Mckeown. Many thanks to all who have already helped, and thanks in advance to anyone who donates in the future.
